Attend a public lecture by Moore in Sarasota

The C.G. Jung Society of Sarasota sponsors an evening with Thomas Moore talking about Care of the Soul in Medicine on Friday 20 January 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This public event is co-hosted by the Bayside Center for Behavioral Health at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The society's promotional description of this evening includes:
"Soul has to do with our deep feelings, thoughts and attachments. Spirit has to do with meaning, vision and the wider context of our lives. Both are equally important and play an important role in sickness and healing. Home, family, memory, story and emotion are soul matters that intensify during sickness and need attention for healing. A larger sense of the meaning of illness and spiritual practice bring the spirit into play. Both of these sensibilities can be seen in images of the Blue Buddha and in the healing style of Jesus. This lecture prepares both patients and healthcare providers with a vision for healing people and not just bodies."
Lecture Fee:
$25 Members
$30 Non-Member
$20 Full Time Student with ID at Door
(2) CEUs $10 - Paid at the Door - CEUs provided by SMH

Astrology may link our daily lives with spirituality

Thomas Moore participates in a five-day summer course in which he explores facets of natural magic. The course is offered at Exeter College, Oxford U.K. from 17 August to 24 August 2012 for the Faculty of Astrological Studies. According to the program's Summer School 2012 online description Moore co-presents in Track 1:

Living Soulfully
Thomas Moore, Judy Hall, Dana Gerhardt and Laura Andrikopolous

"With the idea that 2012 marks a turning point now embedded in our cultural consciousness, many people are questioning established values and finding new meaning in spiritual understanding. Astrology can be an invaluable guide to character, soul and inner landscape during this monumental shift in personal and global awareness. This track brings together astrological, psychological and spiritual perspectives from experienced practitioners for a profound re-visioning of relevant topics, including the astrology of happiness, psychological alchemy, and astrology’s gift of linking our daily lives with cosmic archetypes. We will see how we can find fulfilment and deep-seated, meaningful contentment by weaving astrological and spiritual practices into our daily lives. We will also discover the potential of these times for a shift in global consciousness on a collective level, and how we can use our understanding of astrological patterns to navigate our way through a changing world."

The full summer school brochure is available at the beginning of January 2012, when registration begins.

Moore looks at strands: From hero to Hermes

Today Thomas Moore writes "Freud’s Medusa" for The Dasein Project. In this piece, he explores:
“So, a gun is a symptom. But what is the cure for a gun? What would replace the gun and be real, have power? Why not a penis? Not the symbol of neurotic power but the means for being erotic, expressing love, incarnating desire, creating children, and offering pleasure. Maybe these qualities could be therapeutic for the gun. If everyone got serious about them, maybe they’d forget their guns.”
Moore recommends substituting the ideal of a gun-toting hero with a penis-showing Hermes to expand the "imaginal implications" of potency.
