Moore participates in photography project

Heroines by Jila Nikpay, with essay by Thomas Moore

Slison Bergblom Johnson talks about Jila Nikpay's portraits of women who have survived breast cancer, Heroines: Transformation in the Face of Breast Cancer, for Minnesota Women's Press, as exploring "An Emotional Landscape". In his essay, "How to Be Healed by Your Illness," included in the book, Thomas Moore writes:

"Breast cancer raises an issue that is implicated in other illnesses as well but rarely discussed: sexuality. If people are made uneasy by illness, combine that with sex and you might really have some anxiety. Our society is split about sex. We have it on display all around us - and women's breasts are a big part of that display - and yet we are prudish in many ways."
